Who Needs Winter Clothes?
One of the things I like the most about living in Dubai is not having to wear winter clothes. Who needs sweaters, fur coats and wool caps when you can wear shorts, sandals and strapless dresses all the time. If you get unreasonably nostalgic though, a freezing mall or a restaurant will give you an instant relief. Just pick one.
Love the fact that I don’t have to wonder what’s the temperature outside and what I should wear today – it’s always sixty degrees and I should wear the least possible, as long as it’s legal. And no, it’s not getting any colder in the afternoon.
It’s still fantastic how much money women spend on winter clothes. I guess it’s like buying clothes for special occasions, and that’s no time to get thrifty.

Sports Clothes
A short white tennis skirt is the ultimate queen of the overall sports clothes. It’s simple, clean and well cut, another proof of minimalism supremacy.
I must say there’s one in my closet too, I bought it on one of those ‘necessary‘ shopping trips, you know, when you start a perfectly useful hobby (like tennis) and you simply need a new wardrobe (if that’s not the case, the hobby is not as useful as you thought). I enjoy wearing it, but only if I’m sure I won’t run into someone I know. The previous statement is self-explanatory.
So if you are in possession of one of these perfectly short, adorable pieces of sports clothes, go ahead, there’s going to be a few more girls wearing it around the city this week.

Babe on a Budget
I don’t think there’s an expression more annoying or a cliché more exploited in women’s magazines than ‘babe on a budget’. I actually mentioned it only to piss you off. What’s even worse is that the phrase has become extremely popular with the recession and the number of ‘babe on a budget’ articles hit the roof. Hurry on and get some ‘babe on a budget’ accessories and put on some ‘babe on a budget’ make-up and you’re good to go! It started to feel almost fashionable, like these ‘babes’ are some new urban breed you want to join immediately. Why wouldn’t you just throw away your couture and get on a budget instead?!
And what about ‘budget restaurants’, ‘budget presents’ and ‘budget travels’? Seems like our lifestyles have been on the wrong track all this time. Why haven’t we heard about this little ‘budget’ trick before? Our savings could have been huge! And if only someone had told us we were paying too much for that new ‘miraculous’ facial! We had no idea!
This is not the reason for complaining though. At least the expression makes you feel better about the fact that you can’t afford things any more, if you ever could. It would still be nice if it was an option instead of a must…

Dubai Sales
I am still determined that there are no sales like Dubai sales. Have attended a few of those elsewhere, but a Ted Baker shirt at 50Dhs is a unique Dubai offer, I’d say. That’s why it gets a little annoying to hear Dubai visitors complaining there’s nothing special around here. They ‘have it all back home’ and ‘what else do I have to show them’?
When I first came to Dubai it felt like landing on Mars. Ok, I don’t know what Mars looks like but that’s how I like to imagine it in case we all have to move there one day. Nowhere had I found the malls so unnecessarily shiny or the saleswomen so friendly. They turned out to be completely useless though, but I didn’t know that at the time. The overall impression was strong enough to wipe out the fact that I live in a desert now and that if I stay out a bit longer I might actually melt!
However, I haven’t melted yet and I have done some malls research instead. This is what I found on DSF sales.

Dubai Shopping Festival
Isn’t it a great occasion to start a beautiful friendship? Dubai Shopping Festival has finally arrived and wiped out every excuse to act reasonably in these difficult times. So forget everything you learned about running a home budget, mortgages and your kids’ education and immerse yourself in the retail kingdom. And don’t overanalyze why exactly you need another meaningless piece of clothing, it could get you all the way back to Freud and Freud would be just too much on a hot sunny day.
After a few years in Dubai it finally stopped being hilarious that a thing called ‘shopping festival’ exists in the first place. Why had nobody told Alice about Wonderland before? Well, she is here now and she’s walking around the city gathering the most valuable pieces of information anyone can give to a girl – where she can find exceptional pieces of clothes at discount prices!
